The HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control SYNOPSIS Series is a summary of the lessons learned by the Latin America and Caribbean Regional Office (LACRO) of the AIDS Control and Prevention (AIDSCAP) Project. This SYNOPSIS booklet discusses the importance of Gender- Sensitive Initiatives (GSIs). This booklet utilizes the holographic model such that any one of the sections (holograms) will provide the reader with an understanding of the whole subject matter. The entire strategy or topic of discussion is initially described in one sentence (Hologram 1) and is followed by a one-paragraph abstract of the topic (Hologram 2). The topic is then summarized (Hologram 3) and finally, the entire strategy is presented by virtue of the complete text of the booklet (Hologram 4). The Holographic Overview provides a quick, general overview of GSIs as well as context and background.
